On 13th May, 2017 auditorium room at Moksh was filled with youngsters full of curiosity. You might be wondering why there were curious youths. Leapfrog Academy & Rotaract Club of Durbarmarg together had organized an event named “Before Joining Bachelors” targeting the students who’ve recently appeared Grade XII Board Examination. Many students after appearing Grade XII Examination seems to be in dilemma regarding their career and it’s usual for everyone. The event was sponsored by YAMAHA Nepal, Kantipur Engineering College, Tsubasa Academy & Consultancy, and Presidential Business School.
Different people share different ideas, suggestions, experiences and opinions as well. But it’s upto every student to decide wisely so that they don’t have to feel regret on the decision. The event was scheduled to begin from 11 AM. Beginning with the speech from renowned personalities, the event had been quite interesting and fruitful for all the participants. All the participants in auditorium seemed to be eagerly waiting for the program to begin.
Firstly, emcee introduced the panel members (guests) to the participants. After getting introduced with the panel members, they were warmly welcomed by organizer volunteers.
Dr. Pratibha Acharya (MBBS, Kathmandu University School of Medical Science) began the event by sharing her experience into medical field. She claims that to add a title in front of name, one must be sure if they’re capable enough for it? According to her, gaining marks in examination isn’t a big deal. But to understand what one has learnt is a big deal. She also recommended all the youths who shall be joining undergraduate to get their mind well prepared before beginning undergraduate journey. As the time goes, we forget whatever we’ve learnt. Dr. Acharya suggested to try out new methodology time and again to be sure that one is up-to-date with what they’ve learnt.
“Entrepreneurship is actually a problem solving” says Ms. Nikita Acharya (Co-founder, Urban Girl). She shared her experiences with this saying. In the present scenario of Nepal, many students head towards abroad for further studies without realizing that Nepal is also a land of opportunities. According to her, career goals should be developed from undergraduate level. Students must gain professional experience along with academic side by side. Doing so, they can really learn by doing.
Mr. Dixanta Shrestha (CEO, Leapfrog Academy) focused on professional skill is a must for everyone and also told “With a professional skill, you’re always surviving and getting benefited”. While he had been to abroad, it was his skill which helped him a lot to sustain there. He ended up his words by strongly recommending students to “Dream Big” so that you can achieve big goals.
Mr. Prayas Rajopadhaya (Senior Consultant, Job Dynamics) gave much idea for all the participants regarding the job aspects in the scenario of Nepal. According to Mr. Prayas, no matter what you study, you should always get idea regarding management. Every sector is dependent upon management. He suggested all the participants to change the attitude by learning one book, watching TED Talks etc. at least once a month. He questioned the participants if they were up-to-date with the current affairs throughout the world? And, advised everyone should be well known with their nation’s current affairs either political or social.
It was quite a long time hearing to the experiencs from experts and to entertain the participants, a volunteer changed the environment. He talked about “Why did Katappa killed Bahubali?” to “निर जहिले रिसाउने रे, तर वास्तवमा निर किन रिसाएको?”. Focusing on Science students from Biology group, students have a trend to try for MBBS first. And, giving a try for B.Sc as secondary. The volunteer described the meaning for MBBS and B.Sc. as मेरो बाबाको बडा सपना & बाबाको सपना चक्नाचुर respectively.
After getting entertained, emcee handed over the program to Mr. R.K Dhital (Kantipur). Mr. Dhital was moderator for the panel discussion. The team of panel members included:
1. Dr. Ghana Shyam Gurung (Director, WWF)
2. Mr. Rupesh Shrestha (Associate Professor, KUSOM)

With the panel discussion, Mr. Dhital concluded students who appeared Grade XII Examination must listen to the opinions shared by everyone but at last, take decisions on their own. Throughout the panel discussion, hard work and objective on career was discussed with participants. People often compare themselves with each other. But actually, on doing so they’re insulting themselves. When ones passion drives them crazy, nothing in this world can stop them to achieve the goal.
Overall, it was a great program for students who just appeared Grade XII Examination. Besides them, I’d like to express special thanks to the organizers for being conscious regarding the career of students. Through this event, it’s clear that the organizers have a bright vision for Nepal to empower youths with their hidden skills.
